about

„And again it tickles me / Callous heart beating fast I’m back to start again / Like a bird perched on a scarecrow / Raven eyes and talons too.“ Dissonanzen gehen Allianzen ein mit catchy Melodien.

Bombast, Melancholie, Euphorie, Minimalismus. Protestant Work Ethic arbeiten auf My Idea Of Fun ohne Netz.

„Where the sidewalk ends / I waited for you / Spectres at my ear, whispering / Where the sidewalk ends / For a little longer still / Whisper in my ear sweet nothings.“ Abwege ja, wispern ja. Sweet nothings - nein! Mit My Idea Of Fun haben Protestant Work Ethic einen Drahtseilakt an Emotionalität, Freiheit und Schönheit hingelegt, der seinesgleichen sucht. Da capo!

----------

My Idea Of Fun, the third vinyl longplayer of Vienna’s Protestant Work Ethic on KONKORD, is another inspiring collaberation of great talent. Simon Usaty, the heart and the lung of Protestant Work Ethic, David Schweighart on drums, Heidi Fial on double bass and the vocals of Werner Kitzmüller are joined by soundwizzard Martin Siewert and a playful gang of cellists, flutists and one susaphonist even, to produce a Cirque de Soleil like journey through Simons musical imagination.

Be prepared to enter a very stunning realm with sounds reverberating like old Hollywood movies, painted in all the colours known to chamber music, it’s bits tenderly distorted. Each song shines in it’s own individual way but still remains a part of a bigger whole, of a plan rich in details and interwoven by both words and harmonies. Sometimes subtle, sometimes subversive. Always intriguing.

„And again it tickles me / Callous heart beating fast I’m back to start again/ Like a bird perched on a scarecrow / Raven eyes and talons too.“

Simon Usaty and his troupe d’artistes are dancing like butterflies and sting like Sufjan Stevens, to encounter the experimental mind of Kate Bush to finally take off and drift away with starsailoring Tim Buckley. What a melee of euphoric melancholy and exuberant minimalism.

„Where the sidewalk ends / I waited for you / Spectres at my ear, whispering / Where the sidewalk ends / For a little longer still / Whisper in my ear sweet nothings.“

Protestant Work Ethics recorded their latest stunt My Idea Of Fun without safety net, aiming to take our breaths away. And they do, because the way they’re dancing the tightrope on this recording is unheard of and emotionally most liberating. This is an embellishing listen without equal. We want more! And you will, too!
